Introduction
As the capstone project for my final semester, I collaborated with a team of developers and designers to create In- Haus, an innovative A.I.-powered mobile application. We built the app from the ground up in just 13 weeks. In-Haus simplifies household management with features like task assignments for family members, personalized meal planning, and a fun rewards system where points earned from completing chores can be redeemed.
Problem
Drawing upon insights from a series of interviews with a diverse group of families, we identified a common challenge: the inability to effectively manage household chores, meal planning, and grocery shopping. This initial research phase revealed that these seemingly minor obstacles significantly impact families' work-life balance. Further investigation into this area indicates a clear need for a streamlined and effective solution to address these domestic management inefficiencies.
Solution
Families today often face three main pain points: a lack of organization in daily tasks, time-consuming grocery shopping, and the struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Our app directly addresses these issues by offering a comprehensive solution. By providing tools for time management, efficiency, and task accountability, the app helps families operate more smoothly and cohesively. Ultimately, using the app can lead to reduced stress, improved household communication, and even provide an educational aspect for children through gamified tasks and a rewards system.
My Contributions
As a UI/UX designer, my role was to bring forth a effective solution to simplify household management by interviewing potential users to get to know about their pain points. Then utilizing the pain points and turn them into valuable features that would personally cater to all the user needs. I was incharge of designing the rewards feature and necessary illustations for the onboarding screens of the app along with providing valuable additions and suggestions to fellow team members design choices and works. Along with that, I also undertook the incharge of creating a landing page that clearly portrays all the valuable information regarding the app's features and value proposition.
User Flow
While making the user flow, the main focus was put forth on how easily and seamlessly the features can interact with each other and make sure that consumers of different age groups are able to use the application with no barriers or confusions.
Wireframes
Each interface element was strategically designed to prioritize intuitive navigation and streamlined task completion. The wireframes emphasize clarity through minimalist layouts, logical information hierarchy, and consistent interaction patterns. My main point of focus was the rewards section which detailed on how a user can set rewards for each task completion which ranged from gift cards to monetary use cases. Another screen which was partially made by me was the meal loading screen which detailed on the food that was found after scanning through the ingredients that was feeded into the application's interface or that was scanned using the smartphone's camera.
UI Kit
As part of the
Mockups
The mockups transform wireframes into a cohesive visual experience through thoughtful color psychology and brand identity. Soft gradients, personalized avatars, and mood-based visualizations create emotional engagement while maintaining functionality. Distinct color coding across modules—purple for calendar, pink for meals, blue for rewards—ensures instant recognition and seamless navigation throughout the family task management ecosystem.
