UI/UX Case Study
The Problem
The Victoria Harbour Ferry, known to be one of the best attraction of Victoria,BC has a quite social presence in the internet but lacks the punch and clarity to make sure the customer goes through the rich culture and services that they provide. After researching the website, the main pain points were revealed to be :
Improper Information Structure : There is no distinction between different pages which led to non- linear structure in information layout and quite a lot of negative spacing along with missing elements related to the sections.
Inconsistent UI Kit Elements: Lot of the UI of the website is having inconsistent colors , wrong image size usage and no type hierarchy followed.
Non-Linear User flow : A first time user will be very much confused with the improper layouts and task flow that follows each actions.
Understanding these core issues helped me in formulating a proper layout to revise the website and make it more user friendly.
My Iterations
With the core problems noted, Here the main steps I followed to get the best out of the action plan to make the website fit the modern criterias and user friendly :
Conducted a through research of similar existing webpages to get the proper layout of information structure and how to make the contents of the existing webpage stand out from the competition.
Created a proper UI Kit with reusable elements to save time and effort and also addressed the inconsistent elements with effective layout techniques that matched up with existing user patterns.
Created wireframes, user personas and user flow to highlight the issues which helped in laying out the perfect roadmap to create a hassle-free user experience of the website.
Final Outcome
With all the changes implemented, the newly revised Victoria Harbour Ferry website is all ready to make sure that the user feels the same comfort as being in one the ferry while browsing through the website with a smooth sailing interface that will surely match all the required expectations of the site.
